Pope Beach
Families love Pope Beach for its clear shallow water and relative shelter from the wind. There is plenty of sandy beach to go around, and the parking lot runs the length of the beach, providing easy beach access. There are kayak and other watercraft rentals there on the beach and mobile snack shack for yummy goodies for the kids. The beautiful tall pines provide plenty of shade and there is wheelchair paths and sidewalks. You can expect picnic tables and grills, which have restricted use by the Forest Service. Restrooms are dispersed along the length of the beach and there is a parking fee. This is one of the cleanest Lake Tahoe beaches that will not disappoint.
Pope Beach, as well as several other nearby South Lake Tahoe beaches, are accessible by a nice paved trail that winds through the national forest between the shoreline and Highway 89 (Emerald Bay Road). You can walk, run, or rent a bike to follow the tree-lined trail to your favorite beach and take a dip and enjoy a nice picnic.
Location: Pope Beach is located on the south side of Lake Tahoe, approximately 3 miles north of the “Y” (the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 89) in South Lake Tahoe.
